The majority of settlers in St. Clements were Catholics from Alsace-Lorraine. Like the Amish on the First Line, the Catholics on the Third Line and the Lutherans on the Fifth Line, the settlers of St. Clements sought to preserve their faith and heritage. A stop in St. Clements is well worth the time. The Roman Catholic Church (pictured below) is a must-see, as is the Cemetery. The interior of the church has magnificent carvings, statues, paintings and stained glass windows. The cemetery north and east of the church on Herrgott Road, is unique for its iron cross grave markers. On marble, lead or wood can be found the names of the deceased. |
